What Does Liposomal Mean and Why is it Better?

You’ve come across the term ‘liposomal’ while shopping for supplements but what does liposomal mean? This article will discuss what exactly liposomal is and why it’s better than regular supplements.

I hope this article will demystify liposomal and liposomes so you can understand the science behind it and why you should be choosing liposomal delivery over regular traditional delivery when it comes to your supplements or pharmaceuticals.

What Does Liposomal Mean?

Liposomal means that the nutrients in your supplements become microscopically encased in a spherical fat-like particle which makes it easy for the body to absorb. Liposomal delivery can be used for supplements, drugs or even food; however, I’m yet to see liposomal foods on the market (maybe in the future?).

In order to make something liposomal, it needs to have certain additional ingredients for the effect to take place. The active substance will become encapsulated by phospholipids creating liposomes which are tiny sphere shaped molecules that your body can absorb up to 15 times better than non-liposomes. Your liposomal supplements or drugs will need to contain one or more of the following:

  • MCT oil
  • Sunflower lecithin
  • Soy lecithin
  • Sunflower oil
  • Coconut oil

If you look at the ingredients of Livestus Liposomal Colostrum, you will see sunflower lecithin and MCT oil which are the ingredients used to create liposomes. Livestus only uses the very best liposomal ingredients which are Non-GMO and non-soy.

Why is Liposomal Better?

Liposomal nutraceuticals and health supplements have significant benefits compared to regular ones. Including:

  • Higher bioavailability and absorption
  • Protects the nutrients from being damaged during digestion
  • Improved uptake into cells
  • Liposomes can be both water soluble or fat soluble

Many liposomal products claim to have higher absorbtion but not all of them can deliver on this promise. With sophisticated, well-designed, liposomal formulations, the bio-availability, absorption and cellular uptake of many substances can be drastically improved.
